OH WiFi, wherefore art thou, WiFi? It seems my PC is refusing to see networks this evening, so I’ll have to make due with my trusty iPad!
If you're ever in Yachat, Oregon, we can recommend the Wayside Lodge!
Today we left our cozy nest in Yachat, Oregon and continuing south on U.S. 101, as advertised, encountered some of the most breathtaking coastlines I’ve ever seen — and I’ve seen a fair number of coastlines on this planet! We kept pulling over into the turnouts and burning time and pixels and just never got tired of the scenery, or the 65º-73º temps!
The view from above, above, and Paul on the beach below, below!
The never-ending coastline kept yielding amazing views around every turn, including some fabulous, historic bridges and lighthouses...
The Cape Creek Bridge below the Heceta Head Lighthouse outside of Florence, Oregon...
and the fogbound light itself!
Paul wanted to climb to the light but I didn't have the nerves for it so I stopped him halfway up!
We just kept drinking in the views as Oregon became California and spectacular Redwoods were added to the mix!
A lucky light strike set up this shot of the "Tall Trees" in the Redwood National Forest
True story...we're driving through the Redwood Forest and Paul is looking around. Mind you, he specifically asked to see the giant Redwoods, and he is pretty quiet for a while, then he says..."MawMaw, these trees aren't that big."
The "not very big" trees without a frame of reference
Well, I hadn't intended to get up close and personal with the trees until the morning when we planned to take a trail hike, but I couldn't have my lad disappointed, so I pulled into the next turnout and told him to go up to a tree. "MawMaw!" he says, "These trees are HUGE!"
Paul discovers the enormity of the situation!
After several minutes of tree-hugging up and down a roadside trail, we continued our journey south, landing at last in Klamath and a tidy accommodation called Motel Trees. Our neighbors this evening are this big guy and his little pet...
